CURRENT WORK
Head of Applied Ornithology. My role in the Catalan Ornithological Institute is designing bird monitoring programs, co-ordinate ornithologists that participate in those programs and analyse their results. Nowadays, these tasks take me to work in the Atlas and SOCC projects. I am also involved in the Anuari d'Ornitologia, the PERNIS and the ORENETES projects. Finally, I am working in several studies related to 1) bird species distribution, 2) the assessment of conservation priorities, and 3) population dynamics in burnt areas. As one of the two Spanish delegates, I am representing my institution in the European Bird Census Council since 2007.
INTERESTS
I am particularly interested in bird population ecology from a perspective applied to conservation. Thus, it is not fortuitous that my thesis (2001) was titled Habitat disturbance in Mediterranean landscapes: Effects of fire and fragmentation on birds. I firmly trust in citizen science as a basic procedure to advance in knowledge applied to nature conservation. As well as in birds, I try to maintain my interest in ecological processes in other taxonomic groups, such as butterflies. And certainly, since the birth of Roger and Laura I found myself more amusing than ever!
